Forum rules

A forum for those artists who would like a more critical critique of their work, apposed to a "that's cool" and a smiley.

A Guide to Positive Critiques (adapted from PoetryPlease)

• Does not solely concentrate on a pieces weak points, but tempers constructive criticism with acknowledgment of the good features.
• Is not made up of comments like “well done” or emoticons, as they do not explain why the piece is well done. Comments and emoticons belong in the introduction and summary only.
• A knowledge of technical artistist terms is desirable, but not necessary, to be able to provide constructive criticism.
• Try to keep your thoughts focused on the piece and how it affects you as the viewer.
• Explain why you liked or disliked the piece; don’t just state the emotion it triggered.
• Describe which elements are good, and how they enhance the piece.
• Describe which elements of the piece need improving and politely offer alternatives that can improve the work.
• Please include an honest, but polite, summary in your critique.

Please remember that even if you do not like a custom, or it has numerous faults, keep your comments polite and positive. Always offer alternatives. To merely tear something down and not offer a better alternative is merely destruction.

By concentrating on the piece, and not the artist, we will help each other improve. By concentrating on form rather than content we not only help other artists, but ourselves as well, by learning where our own weaknesses may lie.

Figured maybe I'd put this up in the D room , hoping to get some feedback or whatnot because I want to make sure these submissions are spot on since they are going to be rep'n the CTU at Dcon....so that being said Let loose people...that's what its here for.

So here is my first Dcon submission going with CTU. Assassins Creed 2 Ezio. Its a customized Fahrenheit.....Added some retractable hidden blades for that added touch and yes they are real blades. Feedback is welcome and thanks in advance peeps.

Hm, surprised to not see any comments. The blades idea is very cool, reminds me of the game a lot.

There's nothing really wrong with the figure, but I think overall though the piece feels like it's lacking detail. The only thing that really sticks out is the belt, and it makes the rest seem a bit plain.

Matt this looks great. I like the crisp clean look to it. Maybe could have added a couple more wrinkles or weathering to the clothing? I don't know really.
The studded glove looks sweet, but the white glove cut out for the blade looks a little too hacked up. Overall it looks really good, just that one blade hole on the white fist that seems to be taking away from the custom.

Thanks Nef, Yea I actually caught that spot as I was packaging it up to send to B.A.L.D. Oversight on my part somehow. It will be fixed though as soon as It comes back just wished I could have caught it before having to ship it out cuz like you said its the only spot on there that just doesnt go. Hopefully it wont deter people from checking out my stuff though

Hey matt, I like the concept a lot, and pretty much most of the critiques have been covered from above. In my opinion I think the cloak's material should be a bleached burlap or canvas, it would have a more authentic texture and I feel would give a more medieval look. I like that you created a face for this character but in the game from what I remember we never truly saw his face because the hood came out and covered his eyes with a heavy shadow, so I think a larger hood to come out and droop down over the eyes would look a little truer to the character. The only other things I see lacking are tiny details like throwing knives, sword, etc.

What I do like about this piece is I see the time and effort involved in creating this piece; the innovation of creating retractable blades is damn cool; and the belt buckle looks very well made. You nailed the color scheme of this character too, and although I think a bigger more shaded hood would look better you put your own twist on the character with the face.

I hope that the showing of this piece goes well for you matt.

Thanks for the critique and comments zthirtytwo.... As far as the add ons such as the knives and stuff...I don't really recall if the ezio character had them showing like the altiar character did in the first ac....but i used one of the marketing pics for ac2.... Pretty much the only good one that shows up online lol and on it they didn't have those...I do get what ya mean though but I figures I'd keep it as true as I could to that pic in case those that would search it could relate my custom to their pic as close to spot on as I could. I also agree about the hood but like you mentioned I decided to put my twist to it cuz I felt just having the hood hanging to cover the face would come off as to lazy and I didn't know how to approach doing the face if it was barely visible that wouldn't look lazy. Overall though I agree with what your saying.. Specially the cloak part, that I wish I would have thought about haha.... Thanks again guys for the feedback

I like the overal design but the thing that sticks out to me is maybe the face needs some more colouring on it as right now it looks a little plain for those times he's not wearing the hood. Still, from the get go you can easily pick out what game you are basing the toy on.

It's really amazing that you've managed to combine so many different elements and materials so effectively... I know you are working from an existing character design, but I think you've made it work really well.

The only thing I don't like is the face, I think it needs a bit more detail... but you know me, I'm not happy with a piece until it makes my eyes hurt!

EDIT: ...and the studs on the hand look a bit lost, maybe they could be a bit bigger.
