Forum rules

A forum for those artists who would like a more critical critique of their work, apposed to a "that's cool" and a smiley.

A Guide to Positive Critiques (adapted from PoetryPlease)

• Does not solely concentrate on a pieces weak points, but tempers constructive criticism with acknowledgment of the good features.
• Is not made up of comments like “well done” or emoticons, as they do not explain why the piece is well done. Comments and emoticons belong in the introduction and summary only.
• A knowledge of technical artistist terms is desirable, but not necessary, to be able to provide constructive criticism.
• Try to keep your thoughts focused on the piece and how it affects you as the viewer.
• Explain why you liked or disliked the piece; don’t just state the emotion it triggered.
• Describe which elements are good, and how they enhance the piece.
• Describe which elements of the piece need improving and politely offer alternatives that can improve the work.
• Please include an honest, but polite, summary in your critique.

Please remember that even if you do not like a custom, or it has numerous faults, keep your comments polite and positive. Always offer alternatives. To merely tear something down and not offer a better alternative is merely destruction.

By concentrating on the piece, and not the artist, we will help each other improve. By concentrating on form rather than content we not only help other artists, but ourselves as well, by learning where our own weaknesses may lie.

Extra Strength Pain Relief (Bloody, rust-from-tears-streaked razor blade w/ sleeping pill bottle)

This is a Mini Mugg, I made the sticker for the sleeping pill bottle, and made the swords out of styrene and hemp cord.

I have a story that goes along with this and other similar designs (the short of it: inanimate objects come to life... This story in particular: a razor blade gets used against it's will to kill/make inanimate a suicide...)

Although I really am happy with how this turned out I am considering putting some time into this story and this character in particular and I am unsure if he is coming across at all.

I am currently working on a new design also, but we'll see how it goes.

Any suggestions?

I like it. I think it's simple but cool, not that simple is bad.
Is it eroding under the eyes, I really dig the area around the eyes.

Thanks!
Yeah, that is rust from tear streaks.
I definitely go in for simple design more often than not myself, but I can appreciate more involved stuff too.

Ok first of all the blood spatter on this guy is exceptional. i cant tell if the eyes are dementional or just painted on which is a good thing. the manner in which you set up the pictures is great. overall i find this to be a very effective piece. Simple, yet very very effective.

When looking at this piece I am somehow reminded of a tick..lol A killer tick!

I really can't think of what you'd need to do with this guy..It looks finished and I don't think you should touch it anymore.

The blood splatter work is really good! I've got to try my hand at blood splatters very soon so you've help inspired me to really try it out.
