Forum rules

A forum for those artists who would like a more critical critique of their work, apposed to a "that's cool" and a smiley.

A Guide to Positive Critiques (adapted from PoetryPlease)

• Does not solely concentrate on a pieces weak points, but tempers constructive criticism with acknowledgment of the good features.
• Is not made up of comments like “well done” or emoticons, as they do not explain why the piece is well done. Comments and emoticons belong in the introduction and summary only.
• A knowledge of technical artistist terms is desirable, but not necessary, to be able to provide constructive criticism.
• Try to keep your thoughts focused on the piece and how it affects you as the viewer.
• Explain why you liked or disliked the piece; don’t just state the emotion it triggered.
• Describe which elements are good, and how they enhance the piece.
• Describe which elements of the piece need improving and politely offer alternatives that can improve the work.
• Please include an honest, but polite, summary in your critique.

Please remember that even if you do not like a custom, or it has numerous faults, keep your comments polite and positive. Always offer alternatives. To merely tear something down and not offer a better alternative is merely destruction.

By concentrating on the piece, and not the artist, we will help each other improve. By concentrating on form rather than content we not only help other artists, but ourselves as well, by learning where our own weaknesses may lie.

Alright... I could have sworn I had posted this on here, but I guess it was on the 'other site'

So this is my first post in THE DANGER ROOM, and I look forward to your suggestions.

This was done as a commission for 1V1ARTIN on the other site. It's a 3" dunny, and the only direction he gave me was 'tenticles and cool colors' so this is what came out. It's the first dunny I have worked on in a LONG time, and I actually quite enjoyed it.

Sculpted using Aves Apoxy
Painted with Liquitex acrylics
Clear Coated with Liquitex matte varnish

So... Have at it!

I've been sitting here thinking of what I could change, but there really isn't anything.

Maybe add a tail? Haha

Very interesting and incredible looking sculpt. The use of cool colors for the skin/surface is really interesting and contrasts well with the green. Good job! If you don't mind I'm going to post this on my blog!

Cool! I just recently discovered Tumblr myself... I'm a bit late. I need to start up an account here soon.

i like this man, the skin colors are good. the only thing that bugs me is all that black paint on the teeth are hiding them and makes alot of negative space, makes sense??? as
lso the tentacles could use some more highlights, just my opinion of course and apologize if i offend you. nontheless very good custom, your style is evolving!

Hey! Thanks for the reply, and this is the danger room, apologies are not allowed ;)

The black on the teeth does make them a bit dark, in person the teeth stand out more against the cavity of the head I think the shadows in these pictures make them darker. I totally get where you are coming from though, the Muscamoot that I did had way to much black on the teeth and its like they are not there.

The tentacles have yellow as a highlight against the bright yellow-green. It shows in person, but in hindsight maybe not as dramatic as it should have been.

Such great comments! Thank you! Please check out my other (more recent) custom Dunny in the danger room, I'd love your comments on it as well! viewtopic.php?f=88&t=3137
