Sheelah here is a simple articulated sculpt that is a platform to build custom-designed toys on, much like a Dunny or Munny.

Image

I had wanted a simple girl-themed platform to work with, but I couldn't find anything that was simple enough - so I had to make one! The other platforms I've seen don't really have the femininity to them that makes me want to design a female character custom toy.

She's about 8" tall if I recall correctly.

I hope to have resin casts of her done soon, once I finish the final detailing and sanding and smoothing. She's a little rough in a couple areas, and I want to make sure she's as simple and perfect as I can make her before she hits the molding process.

Once that's all done, I hope to start making customs based around this platform, so it can actually have some detail and personality! I've planned a few already...

She just has 3 points of articulation - the head, and both arms - but the head is really on a shallow peg so that her head can be positioned to give it some more attitude, like you can hopefully see in the pictures. The head is on loosely so it can be firmly attached in a more permanent way once customizing begins - since I figured many female characters would have long hair the head wouldn't turn much anyway, and I really liked the idea of an attitude that could be read through body language like that.

If anyone is interested, do let me know!

I would definitely buy a cast whenever you get done as long as it's not too expensive. I think this is a great design.

Hey guys, thanks for your interest on this.

I have been messing with this in between customs commissions and made a couple small adjustments to the head so that it has a more proper ball-joint there. The head had to be made into a two-part piece that way, but I think that it will be worth it for the little added personality that it will bring. It's a little extra work for the customizer, but no more than making sure the head would be glued down at a fixed and immovable angle...

I still want to get her as smooth as possible, so I am going to be doing a little more sanding and puttying work, and then she should be ready for casting. I have someone in mind for the casting duties, but if anyone has any good suggestions for a resin caster then please forward them my way!

I'll post up some more pics when I get her smoothed out some more.

Thanks again guys.

Serve - I had to look that name up (I'm not very savvy on the current celebrities) but yeah! I see what you mean. Be kinda cool to see someone do a custom up like her. Crap, maybe I should do that and post it to her Twitter account or something...

Nasta, Matt - I am planning on making these as affordable as I can. They shouldn't get too out of hand as far as price, since their point is more for artists to customize than for anything incredibly special about the sculpt itself - though I do like the look of it as it is, myself!

As far as another update goes, I did some more cleanup on her, sanded some more, nice coat of primer, so she's looking very close to being able to be molded. I spoke to my friend who is good at casting, and I also emailed a rather well-known name in the casting industry, so that aspect of the project is moving forward. If all goes well, mold-making and casting should be happening in the beginning of the new year.

ATTENTION Gentlemen and Ladies!!

I need your help with this project. I an currently talking to a few production houses about getting Sheelah made in a resin figure, complete with box.

What would be a price that you would pay for this figure platform? Keep in mind that I can only make so many at this time because of price, it's just me doing this, and because of that the sales cost per figure would have to be reasonable.

So PLEASE, chime in and let me know what you think you'd pay for this. The figure is as you see it, standing about 7 1/2" tall and will be cast in clean white or grey resin.

Currently I am thinking that the head will be assembled on the body, since it would look best that way for display in the window box the platform would come in, but I want to know if you think the head should be left unglued for some reason - perhaps it's easier to work on that way. Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks guys!

David, thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I'm actually moving forward a bit more with this, and have contacted a couple manufacturers in China about having Sheelah made in vinyl - and it's looking very possible! The possible retail cost is looking to be $20 to as high as $25, but no higher than that.

She would be made into white vinyl, and could possibly gain a articulation point at her waist for rotation if desired, and depending on casting she might gain an articulation point at her wrists for rotation there as well. The head may move away from the ball joint, and become a simple rotation point instead, but I do not think that is a major issue, and it would allow for the head to be cast more simply and allow for more customization opportunities, I think.

I have put the project up to the Kickstarter.com people, and it is currently under review. When I hear something back I will be sure to let folks know.

So, what do the rest of you think? $20 - 25 for a approximately 8" tall white vinyl figure like Sheelah, in a printed window box and all? Please chime in!
